Project Description
The Palmetto Dental Arts project is an expansion of an existing dental facility to accommodate the growing needs of the practice. The 3374-square-foot ground-level addition includes a two-story entry area with impressive wall height, designed using wood-framed construction and engineered lumber beams to handle large spans. The roof and floor system uses roof trusses to support the structure while maintaining flexibility for future growth.
The Challenge
The project had to address the need for a larger dental office space while blending seamlessly with the existing building. Key challenges included the design of large-span structures and ensuring the two-story entry met aesthetic and functional requirements.
The Solution
The solution involved using engineered lumber beams to achieve the desired spaciousness for the entry area, while ensuring that the structural integrity was maintained. Roof trusses were used for the roof and floor systems to support the expansion, and calculated wind and gravity loads ensured compliance with local building codes.
The Improvements
The use of engineered lumber allowed for the grand entry area, which enhances the aesthetic appeal of the facility. The wood framing approach kept the structure cost-effective while meeting the size and functionality needs. Additionally, trusses supported large spans, ensuring the space would remain open and flexible
The Results
The expansion of Palmetto Dental Arts will provide the dental facility with a larger, more functional space, designed to meet growing demand. The two-story entry enhances the client experience while the structural design supports the expansion of services in a cost-effective and aesthetic manner
