Project Description
Jeff’s Beverage is an 8,000 sf retail facility designed as a pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) with wood-framed exterior walls and a second floor. Located in a high-wind region, the foundation design was critical to ensure the building is properly anchored, addressing potential uplift forces. The structural system also included a slab designed for forklift loading, ensuring functionality and durability for its retail use.
The Challenge
The key challenge was designing a foundation that could handle substantial uplift forces due to the building’s wind load requirements. Additionally, ensuring the slab design could handle forklift loading was crucial for the facility’s operational needs.
The Solution
The solution involved a detailed foundation plan, including anchor bolt and footing designs to ensure proper connection to the foundation. The second floor framing plan and perimeter wall design were tailored to meet local building codes, ensuring safety and stability. Structural sections were refined to account for the building’s unique requirements.
The Improvements
The design improvements focused on ensuring the foundation could withstand the uplift forces in the high-wind area. The forklift loading considerations ensured the building’s functionality as a retail space, maximizing both safety and usability for the client.
The Results
The project was successfully completed, providing Jeff’s Beverage with a safe, functional retail space built to withstand the region’s high winds while being structurally sound for everyday operations. The use of PEMB and wood framing resulted in a cost-effective, efficient design that met the client’s needs.
